Adoption Circle April Newsletter 2026

SPRING is in the air (and so is pollen)! Now if Ohio could just decide if it’s going to be cold or hot – because we haven’t had any weather that is in between. It will be nice when we settle into long hot summer days.   It’s the end of another school year. WE ARE ALMOST DONE!!! There is so much to think about and do in May – but first – lets recap April!

Easter and Passover were celebrated in the beginning of April. Fortunately, the days were warm and sunny and many of us were able to enjoy time spent outdoors. We hope you were able to spend some time with family and friends that are like family.

In April we celebrated Earth Day, Black Maternal Health Day and National Siblings Day. MOST importantly we celebrated Administrative Professional Day – our very special Carrie West is the glue that holds Adoption Circle together.   She learned her organization skills and compassion from her mother, Barb Rankin, who was the original Administrative Assistant when Adoption Circle first opened its door in 1991.

In April we had two placements and one family was granted finalization.  As always, if your child celebrates a birthday this month, please consider sending photos to us. We love sharing them ðŸ˜Š Please follow us on social media! It’s a great way to stay in touch with your Adoption Circle friends.

In May we are looking forward to celebrating end of the year school activities, spring sports banquets, high school graduations and Memorial Day.  May is observed as Mental Health Awareness Month.  So many of our Birth parents are challenged with Mental Health issues.  This is a good time to talk to your child in age-appropriate ways about their birth parents struggles, and the compassion we have for those with these struggles.

Adoption Possibilities Event

It’s not too late to sign up to participate in the Adoption Possibilities GOLF OUTING May 30th which will raise funds to support the adoption community. I know adoption is near and dear to all of our hearts, so please consider attending this fundraiser. https://app.eventcaddy.com/events/adoption-possibilities-inaugural-golf-event Do you plan on participating? Let us know ASAP as we will gift you a golf shirt with Adoption Circle’s logo to wear on the day of the event. LET’S SHOW UP AND REPRESENT OUR FAVORITE ADOPTION AGENCY!! ðŸ˜Š

Adoption-Centered Summer Camps

With the end of the school year almost upon up (HALLELUJAH) plans for summer are starting to take shape! Is summer camp part of your plan?  Did you know that there are summer camps specifically for adoptees and families that were created through adoption? These camps offer children the opportunity to connect with other children who share their experience of being adopted.  While the camps offer typical activities like fishing, hiking and swimming, they also explore topics such as identity, race and birth parents.  These topics are not typically understood outside of the adoption community. There are camps for adoptees and camps for families.  Some camps to explore are Holt Adoptee Summer Camp, Camp Jewell YMCA, Pact Family Camp, Umoja and Adoption Family Camp. Should you decide to attend a camp this year please let us know about your experience! We would love to hear about it.

A NOTE FROM THE BIRTH PARENT SERVICES DIRECTOR………..

The month of May has arrived, and Mother’s Day is just around the corner. I am certain that this holiday means something special to all of us. This holiday holds the potential to be complicated  Friendly reminder: In the past we celebrated Birth moms on the Saturday before Mother’s Day. This is no longer as we recognize ALL mothers on Mother’s Day – Birth mothers, Adoptive mothers, stepmothers, grandmothers, Aunts and all the special women in our lives.

Those that are waiting for placement may find this holiday painful.  This day is a reminder of yet another year without a child. Those that are humbled by the selfless gift of a child through adoption may struggle to feel joy when they know that another mother is feeling such intense loss. Mother’s Day, like most holidays, trigger emotions in all of us. Here is an article with useful tip for those that are waiting to adopt: https://americaadopts.com/how-to-survive-mothers-day-when-youre-waiting-to-adopt/

For those of you that are parenting an adopted child, how will you honor and celebrate your child’s birth mother on Mother’s Day? I believe the most important thing to do would be remembering her, talking about her with your child.  If you are fortunate enough to have an open adoption – call her! Plan a meet up at a park or restaurant. Do you have a closed adoption? This may require some creative thinking in ways to honor your child’s birth mother. Perhaps take your child to the cafeteria of the hospital where he or she was born. Or to the coffee shop you were at when you received the call from your social worker that your little one had been born. Will you talk to your child about his/her birth mother on Mother’s Day?  We certainly encourage you to – as so many times adoptees think of their birth families on holidays.  When you initiate the conversation, you show your child that you are a safe place to talk about big feelings.  It’s so important to remember that we are all just ONE branch of our child’s family tree. For those of you that have been placed and are wondering if it is important to acknowledge your child’s birth mother on Mother’s Day, here is an article written by a birth mother and her perspective of this holiday.  https://creatingafamily.org/adoption-category/adoption-blog/from-a-birth-mother-on-mothers-day/  NOW is the time to send in a card or gift to Adoption Circle for your child’s birth mother if you plan to honor her this Mother’s Day.  Need ideas on what to send?  A simple “thinking of you” note or a piece of your child’s artwork would be thoughtful.  Feeling crafty? Check out Pinterest -there are so many creative ideas on simple crafts to make with your child.

Amazon Wish List

ALRIGHTY!!! I promise this is my last big push!! PLEASE consider donating from our Amazon Wish list so we can supply our birth mothers with postpartum supplies. So many of the women we work with lack the resources to purchase supplies for after they deliver. What a wonderful way to honor your child’s birth mother this Mother’s Day by helping another birth mother in need.

Thank you so much for being a part of the Adoption Circle family. Your support is so very much appreciated. And as always, if you don’t already,   follow us on our social medial platforms. FaceBook, Instagram, Twitter, Youtube
