Adoption Circle January Newsletter

Winter has arrived in Ohio, as evidenced by the freezing temperatures, record snowfall, and frequent school snow days.  The warm December days only gave us a false sense of hope.  Additionally, it is worth noting that Punxsutawney Phil observed his shadow, indicating six more weeks of winter. We hope these remaining weeks pass quickly and that we can soon look forward to the arrival of spring. 😊.   Before we “spring” ahead, let’s look at the events of January.

Though 2025 had a decreased amount of placements, we have already had our first placement of 2026.  Several of our families are matched with expectant mothers and we had 5 families finalize their adoptions.  Congrats to all.

In January we also observed Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

In January, we also recognized Martin Luther King Jr. Day, which was first observed as a federal holiday on January 20, 1986. This day honors the life and legacy of Dr. King, whose work for justice, equality, and civil rights transformed our nation--and the fight for justice, equality and civil rights still continues today.  As an adoption agency, we have placed hundreds of children of color with their adoptive parents.  For all children, and especially children of color,  celebrating Martin Luther King Jr. Day holds profound importance—it provides an opportunity to connect with their cultural heritage, learn about the Civil Rights Movement, and see themselves reflected in the nation's ongoing journey toward equality and inclusion.  Parents are encouraged to engage in discussions with their children regarding Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and his significant contributions to the history of this country.

Community Events

As mentioned in our December newsletter, Adoption Circle continues working with community agencies to offer parenting education and provide baby essentials to pregnant women and mothers with children up to 12 months old. The education we deliver focuses on topics like safe sleep, feeding, bathing, caring for sick babies, and building strong bonds and attachments. We are grateful for the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the community by supporting and educating mothers. Our ultimate aim is to help reduce infant mortality rates through these educational efforts.

Snow Day

Everybody loves a good snow day. Almost all of Ohio’s 88 counties experienced snow emergencies in January.  We were happy to see all the fun the kids had and happy our families shared the photos.

A Note From the Director Of Birth Parent Services…………..

I'm following up about the virtual parenting forum. I receive calls regularly from adoptive parents looking for guidance or counseling referrals, as well as regular calls from birthparents seeking updates on the children they've placed. If you're interested in joining our virtual parenting sessions, feel free to contact me directly at kim@adoptioncircle.org. And if you haven't yet watched one of my "Car Chats," please visit our social media pages. There, I share useful tips on adoption and parenting, along with feedback from both adoptive and birth parents.

We look forward to seeing how you celebrate these upcoming February events: Black History Month, Valentine’s Day and Random Act of Kindness Day.  Please remember to share photos and if you don’t already,   follow us on our social medial platforms. FaceBook, Instagram, Twitter, Youtube
