April 2025 Newsletter

Happy OFFICIAL Spring! The days are getting warmer, longer, and thoughts of summer are occurring almost daily! It’s the end of another school year. WE ARE ALMOST DONE!!! There is so much to think about and do in May – but first – let's recap April!

Easter and Passover were celebrated later this year than most years, the benefit was beautiful weather. We hope you were able to spend some time with family and friends that are like family.

In April we celebrated Earth Day, World Health Day and National Siblings Day. We started seeing Farmers Markets returning and outdoor activities have occurred more frequently. MOST importantly we celebrated Administrative Professional Day – our very special Carrie West is the glue that holds Adoption Circle together. To know her is to love her. She is the most organized, compassionate and caring person. We won the lottery when she decided to join the Adoption Circle family.

April was a slow month at Adoption Circle. We had three families finalize their adoption. While there were not any placements, we are certain that things will get busy, and we will be growing more families soon. If your child celebrates a birthday this month, please consider sending photos to us. We love sharing them 😊 Please follow us on social media! It’s a great way to stay in touch with your Adoption Circle friends.

In May we are looking forward to celebrating end of the year school activities, spring sports banquets, high school graduations and Memorial Day. May is observed as Mental Health Awareness Month. So many of our Birth parents are challenged with Mental Health issues. This is a good time to talk to your child in age-appropriate ways about their birth parents' struggles, and the compassion we have for those with these struggles.

With the end of the school year almost upon us (HALLELUJAH) plans for summer are starting to take shape! Is summer camp part of your plan? Did you know that there are summer camps specifically for adoptees and families that were created through adoption? These camps offer children the opportunity to connect with other children who share their experience of being adopted. While the camps offer typical activities like fishing, hiking and swimming, they also explore topics such as identity, race and birth parents. These topics are not typically understood outside of the adoption community. There are camps for adoptees and camps for families. Some camps to explore are Holt Adoptee Summer Camp, Camp Jewell YMCA, Pact Family Camp, Umoja and Adoption Family Camp. Should you decide to attend a camp this year please let us know about your experience! We would love to hear about it.

A NOTE FROM THE BIRTH PARENT SERVICES DIRECTOR………..

The month of May has arrived, and it brings what I consider to be one of the most important days of the year – MOTHER’S DAY!!!!! On this day we celebrate the women who brought new life to the world and the women who are raising these amazing humans!! In the past we celebrated Birth Moms on the Saturday before Mother’s Day. This is no longer, as we recognize ALL mothers on Mother’s Day – Birth Mothers, Adoptive Mothers, stepmothers, grandmothers, Aunts and all the special women in our lives. How will you honor and celebrate your child’s birth mother on Mother’s Day? I believe the most important thing to do would be remembering her, talking about her with your child. Sending a card, perhaps with your child’s hand traced in it or a piece of your child’s artwork would also be very appropriate and thoughtful. If you are fortunate enough to have an open adoption – call her! Plan a meet up at a park or restaurant. Adoption Circle has recently partnered with On Your Feet, an agency that provides post adoption support to birth parents. We strongly encourage you to let your child’s birth parents know of this new resource. They are hosting a virtual gathering on Saturday May 10th. Mother’s Day can be complicated for many people touched by adoption, this is an opportunity for birth mothers to experience peace and healing surrounded by people who understand their situation. The theme this year is “This is Hard, and Still We Bloom.” Please spread the word. On Your Feet has a strong presence on social media and the services they offer are explained there. Make sure your child’s birth parents know that if they reach out, they should mention that they worked with Adoption Circle. Because we partner with them, our birth parents will be given priority to all of their events and services. Adoption Circle is proud to offer this new support resource to our birth parents. In addition to virtual events, On Your Feet also offers case management to birth parents, including financial budgeting skills, counseling, peer support, educational opportunities and birth parent retreats. These services are offered to any of our birthmother’s regardless of when their adoption plan was completed. PLEASE share this information with your child’s birth parents. They can reach out directly to On Your Feet or to me (Kim@adoptioncircle.org) with any questions.

We are looking forward to May events and especially seeing all the photos of the Mother’s Day celebrations. If you don’t already feel free to follow us on social media. FaceBook, Instagram, Twitter
